Carl RottmannIm Auftrag des bayerischen Knigs Ludwig I. schuf der Landschaftsmaler Carl Rottmann zwischen 1838 und 1850 23 Monumentalgemlde historischer Sttten Griechenlands. Der Bilderbogen spannt sich von Korinth ber Olympia bis Sparta und Marathon. Rottmann (17971850) rekonstruierte kein idyllisches Arkadien; er hatte die Orte selbst bereist und gab sie als einsame und karge Landschaften wieder, deren Gegenwart in Spannung zur ruhmreichen Vergangenheit steht.
